Terms of Use

Last updated: July 2026

1. Provider

unPaper (www.unpaper.ai) is a free tool created, operated, and owned by reHeritage GmbH, Schroederstrasse 4, 10115 Berlin, Germany (see Impressum for full company details). By using this tool you agree to these Terms.

2. Nature of the service

unPaper provides print-ready HTML templates and a browser-based helper for turning your own content – with the help of a third-party AI assistant of your choice – into slide decks and documents you can save as PDF. The hosted tool at www.unpaper.ai is provided free of charge, runs document processing entirely in your browser, and never uploads your document content. The website uses cookie-free aggregate traffic analytics as described in our Privacy Policy. (Commercial deployment of the unPaper software is licensed separately – see section 3.)

unPaper does not generate your content and is not an AI service. You use your own AI assistant (e.g. ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini) under that provider's separate terms. unPaper merely supplies a template and renders HTML you paste back. Output quality depends on your inputs and on the assistant you use.

The tool is provided for informational and productivity purposes. Nothing here constitutes professional, legal, financial, or technical advice.

3. Licensing: your documents, the format, and the tool

You retain your content and control the documents you create. As between you and reHeritage GmbH, your inputs remain yours. You may keep, edit, reproduce, present, publish, distribute, and use the files you create for any lawful personal or commercial purpose. To the extent an output contains unPaper template elements, reHeritage GmbH grants you a worldwide, perpetual, royalty-free licence to use and modify those elements as part of your documents and presentations. This does not permit extracting and redistributing the templates as a standalone template library, product, or service.

The unPaper HTML format is an open standard. The specification is published under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 licence, and anyone may build software that reads or writes unPaper HTML, for any purpose including commercial, without permission or fee (see the specification).

Free hosted use, including commercial work. The hosted tool at www.unpaper.ai is free for individuals, companies, public bodies, and other organisations to create their own documents, including documents used commercially. No account or fee is required, and no document content is uploaded to unPaper. An officially published unPaper command-line package may also be installed and run by an individual end user, including at work, to create or convert that user's own documents under the permission stated in the repository licence notice.

Commercial licence. The unPaper software (the converter, the templates, the code, the branding and the name) is proprietary to reHeritage GmbH and protected under German copyright law (UrhG): it is free to use as the hosted tool above, but not free to run as your own deployment. A separate commercial licence from reHeritage GmbH is therefore required to: (a) self-host or deploy the unPaper software within an organisation's own infrastructure (including an organisation-wide, shared, automated, or on-premises deployment, but excluding the expressly permitted individual command-line use); (b) embed or integrate it into another product or paid service; or (c) redistribute or resell the software or templates. Organisations standardising on unPaper, or wanting an on-premises or custom-branded deployment, should contact reHeritage GmbH for a commercial licence (section 10). Nothing here grants rights in our trademarks, trade names, or branding.

4. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • Use the tool in any way that violates applicable law, including German law and EU regulations
  • Attempt to gain unauthorised access to, disrupt, or overload the service or its infrastructure
  • Upload or transmit malware or malicious code
  • Use the tool to create content that is unlawful, defamatory, or infringes the rights of others
  • Resell, sublicense, or redistribute the templates or tool as a standalone or competing product

5. Third-party content and links

unPaper links to external services (such as YouTube and our companion site unrsnbl.ai) and is designed to be used alongside third-party AI assistants. reHeritage GmbH is not responsible for the content, accuracy, availability, or practices of any third-party website or service. Inclusion of a link does not imply endorsement.

6. Disclaimer of warranties

The tool and all templates are provided "as is" and "as available" without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. reHeritage GmbH does not warrant that the tool will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that generated output or printed PDFs will meet your requirements.

7. Limitation of liability

To the extent permitted by mandatory applicable law, reHeritage GmbH shall not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of, or inability to use, this tool.

Nothing in these Terms limits or excludes liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraudulent misrepresentation, or for any other liability that cannot be limited or excluded under German law (including §§ 307, 309 BGB). Where German mandatory consumer protection law applies, statutory rights are unaffected by these Terms.

8. Availability and changes

reHeritage GmbH may modify, suspend, or discontinue any part of the tool at any time, with or without notice. We may also update these Terms to reflect changes in the tool or applicable law; the "last updated" date above reflects the latest version. Continued use after changes take effect constitutes acceptance.

9. Governing law and severability

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Federal Republic of Germany, excluding its conflict-of-law provisions. To the extent permitted by law, the exclusive place of jurisdiction is Berlin, Germany. If you are a consumer resident in the EU, you retain the benefit of any mandatory consumer protection provisions of your country of residence.

If any provision of these Terms is found invalid or unenforceable, it shall be modified to the minimum extent necessary to make it enforceable, or severed; the remaining provisions continue in full force.
