Terms of Use

Last updated · August 2026

1. Provider

unPaper (www.unpaper.ai) is a tool created, operated, and owned by reHeritage GmbH, Schroederstrasse 4, 10115 Berlin, Germany (see Impressum for full company details). By using this tool you agree to these Terms.

2. Nature of the service

unPaper provides print-ready HTML templates and a browser-based helper for turning your own content – with the help of a third-party AI assistant of your choice – into slide decks and documents you can save as PDF. The hosted tool at www.unpaper.ai runs document processing entirely in your browser, and never uploads your document content. The website uses cookie-free aggregate traffic analytics as described in our Privacy Policy. Individual use is free; organization adoption and commercial deployment are licensed separately as described in section 3.

unPaper does not generate your content and is not an AI service. You use your own AI assistant (e.g. ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini) under that provider's separate terms. unPaper merely supplies a template and renders HTML you paste back. Output quality depends on your inputs and on the assistant you use.

The tool is provided for informational and productivity purposes. Nothing here constitutes professional, legal, financial, or technical advice.

3. Licensing: your documents, the format, and the tool

You retain your content and control the documents you create. As between you and reHeritage GmbH, your inputs remain yours. You may keep, edit, reproduce, present, publish, distribute, and use the files you create for any lawful personal or commercial purpose. To the extent an output contains unPaper template elements, reHeritage GmbH grants you a worldwide, perpetual, royalty-free licence to use and modify those elements as part of your documents and presentations. This does not permit extracting and redistributing the templates as a standalone template library, product, or service.

The unPaper HTML format is an open standard. The specification is published under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 licence, and anyone may build software that reads or writes unPaper HTML, for any purpose including commercial, without permission or fee (see the specification).

Free individual use, including work. One person may use the hosted tool, a one-browser Offline session, and an officially published unPaper command-line or agent package for that person's own lawful work. Professional and commercial document work performed for an employer or client is included. No account or fee is required for this individual use. An employer does not need a licence merely because one employee independently uses unPaper.

Free organization evaluation. One organization may evaluate unPaper with no more than five people for no more than 60 days solely to decide whether to obtain a commercial licence. Evaluation does not include a production rollout or shared automation.

Paid organization adoption. A written annual licence is required when an organization: (a) centrally approves, procures, distributes or administers unPaper for more than five authorized users; (b) standardizes unPaper, an unPaper template or an unPaper workflow as a shared organizational tool; or (c) runs unPaper in shared CI, batch processing, an internal service, or agent automation used by more than one person. Independent employee discovery is not organization adoption merely because the work is commercial.

Private deployment and OEM rights. The unPaper software is proprietary to reHeritage GmbH and protected under German copyright law (UrhG). A separate written agreement is required to self-host or operate it on an organization's own infrastructure, including on-premises or air-gapped; to embed it in another product or service; to redistribute, resell or white-label it; or to provide its functionality to third parties. A private deployment is customer-operated by default. Implementation, support commitments, identity, connectors and custom infrastructure are included only when agreed separately in writing. Nothing here grants rights in our trademarks, trade names, or branding.

No licensing telemetry. unPaper does not count users, documents, prompts or conversions to measure licence compliance, and a private release does not phone home for a licence check. Commercial scope is declared and agreed in writing. The complete software terms are in the applicable distribution licence; versions already received keep the terms distributed with them.

4. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • Use the tool in any way that violates applicable law, including German law and EU regulations
  • Attempt to gain unauthorised access to, disrupt, or overload the service or its infrastructure
  • Upload or transmit malware or malicious code
  • Use the tool to create content that is unlawful, defamatory, or infringes the rights of others
  • Resell, sublicense, or redistribute the templates or tool as a standalone or competing product

5. Third-party content and links

unPaper links to external services (such as YouTube and our companion site unrsnbl.ai) and is designed to be used alongside third-party AI assistants. reHeritage GmbH is not responsible for the content, accuracy, availability, or practices of any third-party website or service. Inclusion of a link does not imply endorsement.

6. Disclaimer of warranties

The tool and all templates are provided "as is" and "as available" without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. reHeritage GmbH does not warrant that the tool will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that generated output or printed PDFs will meet your requirements.

7. Limitation of liability

To the extent permitted by mandatory applicable law, reHeritage GmbH shall not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of, or inability to use, this tool.

Nothing in these Terms limits or excludes liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraudulent misrepresentation, or for any other liability that cannot be limited or excluded under German law (including §§ 307, 309 BGB). Where German mandatory consumer protection law applies, statutory rights are unaffected by these Terms.

8. Availability and changes

reHeritage GmbH may modify, suspend, or discontinue any part of the hosted tool at any time, with or without notice. We may also update these Terms prospectively to reflect changes in the tool or applicable law; the "last updated" date above reflects the latest version. Continued hosted use after changes take effect constitutes acceptance. An update to these Terms does not retroactively change the licence distributed with an earlier command-line or software release.

9. Governing law and severability

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Federal Republic of Germany, excluding its conflict-of-law provisions. To the extent permitted by law, the exclusive place of jurisdiction is Berlin, Germany. If you are a consumer resident in the EU, you retain the benefit of any mandatory consumer protection provisions of your country of residence.

If any provision of these Terms is found invalid or unenforceable, it shall be modified to the minimum extent necessary to make it enforceable, or severed; the remaining provisions continue in full force.
